René-Louis Baire’s life has not been easy. Born in Paris on January 21, 1874, the son of a tailor. His family’s financial situation is not good. But in 1886, a scholarship changed everything. This allowed him to go to a better school. In 1891, he passed the entrance exams to the École Polytechnique and École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He chose the latter. He received his B.S. in 1895 he received his Ph.D. 1899.
His PhD was more than a mere formality. This is the basis for a new way of thinking about functions. He studies irrational numbers and how continuous functions approximate irrational numbers. This research had a great influence on the French school of mathematics. Even today, students of real variables encounter his ideas.
Explanation of Baire Category Theory
Baire’s thesis focused on functions of real variables. He used set theory to classify them. He called it “categorizing.” The system is recursive. It’s easy to understand when you break it down.
Class 1 functions are limits of a series of continuous functions.

Health and war interrupt career
Bell joined the faculty of the University of Montpellier in 1902. Three years later he moved to the University of Dijon. He was brilliant He is also very weak. His health problems plagued him throughout his life.
In 1914 he went on leave. He went to Lausanne, Switzerland, to recuperate. The timing is terrible. The First World War has begun. He could not return to France. This is a devastating blow. He was cut off from his academic community. He officially retired in 1925. Died at Chambéry on 5 July 1932.
